Cheshire League Division 1

Winsford Town Fc 6 Northwich Vics Reserves 2

It went from good to bad to worse for Vics Reserves on Saturday as the match went on, when after a fairly even first half , the second half was one to forget !
Vics started well enough and took the lead in the 8th minute when Fin Hynes floated a free kick from near the corner flag direct into the net at the far post. However Winsford struck back 4 minutes later when a lofted shot from the edge of the area hit the underside of the bar, bounced down and into the net off Rocco Cecere's back. Aaron Biddle then volleyed inches over from close range after a corner came in. Vics then fell behind in the 30th minute when they failed to clear the ball in their area, and Winsford smashed the ball home. 6 minutes later, it was 3 -1 to Town when a shot from 15 yards out went under the keeper. However Vics pulled a goal back in the 40th minute when Max Hatton bid brilliantly well to cut across the area and turn to shot the ball just inside the left post wrong footing the keeper. So 3- 2 at half time and all to play for.

However the second half was a dismal affair, with Vics looking lethargic and struggling to string any passes together. Winsford kept pushing forward and any hope Vics had of getting anything out of the game went in the final 15 minutes as they conceded three goal in quick succession .
Firstly a close in header in the 75th minute before a world of a strike flew into the back of the net just 2 minutes later, and Winsford rounded it all off in the 88th minute with a well struck penalty.

Manager Ryan Smith said " 45 minutes to forget, I think 1st half we created enough chances, we wanted it enough, the 50/50s were good but full marks to Winsford, they were dangerous going forward and in the wide areas, they have quality players in the side. But equally we were as good in the first half, we created chances, we went one nil up, we hit the bar, and created enough chances and we were unfortunate with the manner of the first goal. But i think the reaction to going 3- 1 down , to stay in the game was positive and we were asking questions up to half time. It was a real 50-50 game. Then in the second half, i just dont think we wanted it enough, I dont think we reacted well enough and we bowed out of the game far too early, but full marks to Winsford for capitalising. But second half today, we were well off it."
