Northwich Vics Reserves 2 Knutsford Fc 2

The Reserves made an encouraging start to life in The Cheshire League Division 1 as they held a strong Knutsford side to a 2 - 2 draw .

Vics started strongly and took the lead early when Bailey Burke flicked the ball for Conor Hynes to go through on goal, and their was only going to be one result, Goal ! Knutsford then equalised through a rather debatable penalty before Vics retook the lead with a wonderful goal. A throw in was flicked on by Conor Hynes to Ini Gbadegesin with the reversed pass for Luca Partington to rifle the ball into the net. Knutsford came back strongly as the second half progressed and deserved their equaliser to make it 2 -2.

Manager Ryan Smith said " I think we were value for the point to be fair, I dont think we deserved to take all three points, Knutsford were excellent in the second half and we were pinned back in for long periods. I certainly think that based on our resilience and our desire not to lose the game, and the performance in the first half, we were well worthy of the point and Im proud of the lads. Ok, it wasn't 3 points but if you had told me before the game that we were going to take a point from a side like Knutsford then i would have been pleased with it. It's a good start to the season against a really good Knutsford side. I think that the desire not to want to lose and the discipline in keeping our shape, we made it tough for them today and made it hard for them to try and play between the unit, and the lads have done exactly what we asked of them.
Its a good start to the season, something to build from, and kick on from and we understand the levels that we have to try and achieve every week now.
