The Reserves recorded a splendid 3 - 1 victory over a Newton-le-Willows team who had clinched the League title the previous week. This keeps the Vics' promotion hopes alive though that does depend on West Didsbury & Chorlton Reserves dropping points in their final two matches whilst Vics win their last match against Haydock next week.
After an even start with half chances for both teams, Vics took the lead after 26 minutes when Will Bentley laid a great ball out to Conor Hynes wide on the left, he left his defender for dead and struck a shot from the corner of the box into the far corner to score. Hynes then went close again a couple of minutes later as Vics pushed forward. Arron Biddle then struck a powerful free-kick from 25 yards out which the Newton keeper did well to push out for a corner which was swung in and caused havoc in the area allowing Nathan Gee to force the ball over the line during a melee of players. Vics were looking comfortable now as they went in at half -time 2 goals up.
However, two minutes into the second half , a sloppy clearance allowed Newton-le-Willows to score and it was all to play for. Conor Hynes and then Bentley both had good chances for Vics whilst Newton were pushing hard for an equaliser. The vital third goal came in the 77th minute as Vics earned another corner which was allowed to drop to the feet of Captain Bailey Burke who stabbed the ball into the net from a few yards out and Vics comfortably saw the match out to grab 3 important points
