An entertaining match with two totally contrasting halves match which started dramatically, when Darrhyl Mason won the ball on the edge of the area and drove into the area, rounded the keeper, who promptly brought him down. Penalty awarded ! Up stepped Joel Brownhill, who struck the ball low straight down the middle but the young keeper , Alfie Darkes saved with his legs as he dived right, and Mason couldn't control the rebound. However Vics weren't to be denied, and just 2 minutes later, a corner was swung in, and Kieron Kenny , unmarked at the back post headed in from close range. Vics were playing some great quick flowing football with the running of Mason , Brownhill causing problems for the Silsden defence. Vics extended their lead in the 30th minute in slightly bizarre fashion as a cross was swung in from deep by Joel Brownhill which Darrhyl Mason couldn't get a touch to and it sailed into the far corner of the net. Vics continued to push, but despite some delightful football couldn't find the finishing touch to some promising moves, and Silsden were indebted to Darkes for keeping them in the match.

HALF-TIME : Silsden 0 Northwich Vics 2

The second half began as the first had ended, with Vics playing quick attacking football, but all this changed after 50 minutes, when Daniel Forrest struck a sweet , perfectly placed shot from the edge of the area into the bottom corner of the Vics net. Just 3 minutes later, Silsden were level as that man Forrest scored an even better goal as he struck a lobbed shot over debut keeper Jonty Cottam from about 40 yards out, a brilliant strike which Cottam could do nothing about. Silsden were now making all the running , pressing Vics back though without creating too much danger. Vics came close on a break , when Harvey Whyte's low shot shaved the post after 63 minutes but neither team really deserved to lose and the game ended in a 2 -2 draw.

An entertaining game with Vics playing superbly in the first half, but Silsden's doggedness came through in the second half, and the final result was about right. Also great to see 2 young keepers get their chance with 17 year old Darkes for Silsden and of course our very own 16 year old Jonty Cottam for Vics. Both performed creditably and their performances bode well for the future.
