A match which started dramatically, when in the first minute, Paul McManus intercepted a poor clearance by Brandon Barski, and coolly sent a lobbed shot from all of 40 yards over the retreating Danny Taberner into the Vics' net to give Town an early lead. This wasn't to last long as just 5 minutes later, a Vics's corner wasn't cleared properly and a dropping ball was horribly sliced into his own net by a Town defender. In the 17th minute, a Vics' free kick was flicked on by Kieron Kenny to Brandon Barski at the far post but his close range header was well blocked by the Town keeper for a corner. The resulting corner was floated to the back post where that man Barski was, but this time his header was just over the bar. In the 28th minute, a Runcorn corner was partially cleared by Vics, and picked up by Simon Thelwell out on the left who cut in and fired a shot in which Taberner could only push across goal, and fortunately a Vics defender reacted quickest to clear the loose ball.
The rest of the first half passed quietly as the both teams struggled with the bobbly pitch and warm sunshine.

The second half began as the first had ended, quietly , but in the 55th minute some good interpassing in the middle of the park lead to Dominic Craig being free wide right, beating his defender and crossing a near post ball to the onrushing John Connolly but his flicked header went just over the bar. More crisp passing in the 62nd minute bu Connolly, Camozzi and Brownhill set Dom Craig charging into the area but his shot lacked conviction and was blocked by Adam Reid in the Town net. Vics' best chance of a winner came in the 80th minute when a deft header by Connolly set Craig up on the edge of the area, but he could only stab his shot wide of the post.
