A match played in steady rain, and the first half was nearly as dismal as the weather, with few chances with both teams seemingly happy to wait and see if anything occurred rather than making it happen. Vics were on the front foot for most of it though without creating much , though early on Rob Doran set off on a marauding run down the right to the touchline, where he sent over a swirling cross which Joel Brownhill met with his head but the ball went wide of the post. It wasn't until the 25th minute that Hanley had their first effort, a 25 yarder that went well wide. Just before half-time, Vics had their best effort when Joel Brownhill's powerful run and cross into the 6 yard box just evaded Harvey Whyte's outstretched leg.

Vics started the second half better, and Rob Doran's volley from 8 yards just went wide, after he had cleverly beaten his man. Hanley were down to 10 men shortly after, when on 54 minutes, Leigh Skellern was rightly sent off for a late ( and needless) high tackle , right on the touchline on Jack Fleming. This seemed to spur Hanley on , and just 2 minutes later, they were unlucky not to take the lead when Serkari Ahmadi crashed a shot against the bar with Taberner beaten. This finally woke Vics up, and they took the lead after 70 minutes, when a perfectly flighted ball in from Joel Brownhill was met by Brian Matthews to head into the bottom corner. Just 2 minutes later, Brownhill was again the provider as another pin point cross found Brad Cooke who made no mistake with his head. Vics were now playing freely, and the best move of the match led to Vics' third, as the returning John Connolly slipped a superb pass through into the box for Brad Cooke to slide the ball under the keeper into the net.
