This match started under leaden skies and the dullness extended onto the pitch in the opening exchanges with nothing to report at either end of the pitch. Vics’ missed a good chance on 12’ minutes to break the deadlock as Rob Doran’s flicked header from Joel Brownhill’s in-swinging cross landed at the feet of Darryhl Mason around seven yards out but he could only lift his driven shot over the crossbar.
Alport huffed and puffed thereafter but with no real intent going towards the Vics’ goal until the half-hour when Vics’ glove-man Danny Taberner produced a world-class save with his feet to deny an opener. Aaron Johns was clean through on goal but his slide-rule shot from ten yards went just wide of the post, thanks to Taberner’s timely and miraculous intervention.
Vics’ edged in front on 39’ when game-star Brandon Barski nodded home from seven yards out powerfully at the far post via a slight deflection off Port’ defender following a superb delivery into the danger zone by Joel Brownhill; another assist to his ever-growing tally - another perfectly executed corner kick.

HALF-TIME. Vics’ 1-0 Whitchurch Alport.

The second period began in a similar fashion to the first, with both sides ceding possession too easily but Vics’ not looking in too much danger of the slender lead being wiped out.
A yellow card was shown to Alport’ defender Leon Ashman after a crude late challenge on a full in flight Darryhl Mason in a lightning quick Vics’ raid that stirred the Green and Whites’ into life once more.
Harvey Whyte then spurned a great chance to grab a second for Vics’ on 68’. A clever and quickly taken throw-in by Joel Brownhill found an alert Rob Doran; who in turn rolled a lovely ball into the path of Whyte - his low drilled snap-shot from twelve yards was parried excellently by Alport’ custodian Dave Parton and collected smartly at the second attempt despite a posse of Vics’attackers bearing down on him.
Alport battled gamely as the game ticked into the closing quarter and enjoyed some good possession but lacked a cutting edge to seriously look like troubling what is an impregnable Vics’ defence of late, and lead by the consistent Brandon Barski.
The green and whites’ sealed the points on 75’ when sub’ Brian Matthews went on a jinking run on the far touchline and picked out the onrushing Joel Brownhill who shot powerfully right-footed from seven yards out and his effort was diverted into the net by the outstretched leg of Darryhl Mason.
Alport mustered a response of sorts; sub’ Matty Ashbrook sent a looping header over the bar from ten yards but Taberner looked to have it covered in any case.
Vics’ saw out the additional four minutes of added time with minimum of fuss to go into next week’s F.A Vase fifth round tie at Histon F.C in good spirits and good form.

Vics’ M.O.M - Brandon Barski. Opened the scoring with a trademark thumping header, and lead from the front at the back with his impressive reading of the game and an immovable force in an impressive Vics’ rear-guard.

Vics’ boss Steve Wilkes’ verdict on a third straight league victory -

"A fairly comfortable three points; but the main thing for me was getting a full squad through the game - and injury- free and nobody sent off.
So it was a perfect day in that sense and it’s three successive games with wins on the bounce now.
It could have been much different if Danny Taberner hadn’t made a crucial save at 0-0. "

Steve’s thoughts on Histon FCaway next week in the F.A Vase -

"We can now prepare well for the Histon game next Saturday, and with a free mid-week we can get a lot done on the training pitch as well as resting up.
We know it’s going to be a tough game; but we’re all looking forward to it.
And if the support is half as good as it was when we played Newcastle Benfield in the previous round; then it’ll feel like a home game.
