Vics lost the unbeaten league record as they lost 2 - 0 to Sutton United and deservedly though.

It was an uninspiring first half for the Vics when they didn’t have a shot in anger and were lucky to go in the half time break level.
Sutton had their first shot after just 4 minutes to set the tone of the match as Red Simmons forced Mendes into getting down low to save a long range effort. They then had a free header from a corner where Tom Massey should have done better than head well wide. 13 minutes in, another great chance for Sutton as Sean Devlin made a darting run into the box , managed to get round Mendes but was driven wide and Mendes managed to get back to block the eventual shot. Sutton were doing most of the pressing with Vics struggling to create anything but defending well enough. 32 minutes in, and Vics were indebted to Fraser Cookson for a magnificent last ditch tackle to deny Sutton a shot on goal whilst a minute later, Mendes pulled off an excellent diving save to parry a goal bound header from a corner away to safety. The rest of the half was uneventful leaving Vics happy enough to go into half time level.

HALF TIME : Sutton United 0 Northwich Vics 0

Half-time seemed to have woken up the Vics as they finally had a shot on target when Harvey Whyte curled a long range free-kick at goal forcing Sutton keeper Greg Lewis into a fine save. Two minutes later, it was Vics again on the attack as Rokka found Will Lloyd in the area but his shot lacked the power to worry Lewis too much. However it was Sutton who took the lead in the 50th minute as a corner was headed against the bar and down onto the line leading to a huge goalmouth scramble with the linesman judging that somewhere in the process the ball had crossed the line.
Vics tried to react to this setback with Rokka firing an effort over the bar but Sutton were looking in control , winning second balls and pressing hard whenever Vics had the ball.
Mendes again kept Vics in it in the 64th minute as he pulled off a brilliant save with his legs when Massey was played through one on one. However it wasn’t long before Sutton extended their lead as a quick break down the left found Jayden Hunter who comfortably beat his man for speed and finished well past Mendes. It was all too comfortable for Sutton now with Vics’ best chance coming in the 91st as Matty Clarke was found with a diagonal ball to the far post but he couldn’t direct the ball goalwards.

All in all, Vics were second best in all departments in a very disappointing display. Hopefully this will be a wake up call in readiness for Tuesday’s night match against Sporting Khalsa.
