Another frustrating match for Vics, very similar to Saturday’s where Vics had most of the possession and play but just couldn’t score despite Alport being down to 10 men for two thirds of the match !

First chance of the match fell to Vics in the second minute as Matty Birchall’s shot was deflected for an easy save by Tyler French in the Alport net. Alport then went up the other end but McNally’s effort failed to have enough pace to test Mendes. Vics started to press more as the match went on and Joe Duckworth had a first time shot just wide of the post and then Will Lloyd fired a powerful effort forcing French into a decent save. Duckworth then went close with a lob just over the bar after being put through by a Lloyd ball over the top in the 14th minute. However Alport were looking dangerous as well and should have scored a minute later as Holden was put through one on one with Mendes who did superbly well to save with his legs, with the follow up shot from Armstrong well blocked. The match was free-flowing at the moment and Alport again went close as a hard hit cross/shot skidded just past the post evading the onrushing McNally as it went. Alport were then reduced to 10 men in the 27th minute as full back Billingham was sent off for a late high tackle on Harvey Whyte. Vics pushed forward looking to take advantage of their extra man and only a great last ditch tackle denied Harvey Whyte as he went through on goal. The chances kept coming with both Birchall and Duckworth having efforts well cleared before Birchall headed just over from a great Matty Clarke cross. Further efforts from Birchall again and finally Hamm closed the half for the Vics.

HALF TIME : Whitchurch Alport 0 Vics 0

The expected second half onslaught from Vics against the ten men Alport never really materialised though Birchall did get the ball into the net with a neat header but Whyte was ruled just offside in the build-up to his cross in. Vics were finding it difficult facing a resolute Alport defence and to be honest they were creating little in what was proving to be a disappointing second half performance. Kieran Hamm had a header just wide from another Clarke cross and Joe Duckworth fired a shot against the post in the 72nd minute but that proved to be as close as Vics got to a goal and they had to be wary as Alport looked dangerous on the break and Mendes had to be alert to to save a header as it was creeping just under the bar. As time was running out, Lloyd had a shot from the edge of the box well saved whilst in the last couple of minutes Vics had a half-hearted shout for a penalty as Lee Jackson headed across goal and the ball appeared to hit the arm of an Alport player but the referee was having none of it and the match closed goalless .

All in all, despite a confident and commanding first half performance by the Vics, Alport more than deserved a point with a strong resolute performance after the sending off which frustrated Vics who failed to take advantage of the extra man.
