The proverbial game of two halves as Wisnford had the better of the first to lead at half time whilst Vics were dominant in the second and will feel aggrieved that they didn’t come away with all 3 points. , but
Vics had the first chance of the match in the 5th minute when Aaron Fleming’s free-kick was spilled by the keeper but he made amends as he did well to stop Abreu with the follow-up shot. A minute later, Winsford took the lead as Reece Davies powered a header home from a corner. Robinson then fired wide for Winsford as they started to press the Vics’ defence with their direct approach . Zac Prior, in goal for Vics in place of the absent Mendes, then made a good stop to deny Winsford a second as Vics to get any rhythm into their game. This wasn’t helped when Fleming was sent to the sin bin in the 27th minute (which lasted 12 minutes for some reason) but Winsford couldn’t take advantage of their extra man as Vics defended well. With Fleming back on, Vics were getting back into the game and nearly equalised in the last minute of the half, Will Lloyd surged forward and fed kieran Hamm whose shot went just wide.
Vics came out a different team in the second half, and equalised in the 47th minute as a long throw by Kandeke was headed into the net off the underside of the bar by Matt Harrison. Prior tipped a looping shot over the bar on one of the few occasions Winsford threatened in the 50th minute, but it was Vics who was looking the likeliest to grab a winner. Aaron Bott had a long range shot just wide whilst long throws were causing havoc in the Winsford’s defence but the ball wouldn’t quite fall for them. Aaron Fleming’s effort from just inside of the area in the 73rd minute looked destined for the net but a combination of Kirwan and a defender managed to scoop the ball over the bar. It was all Vics’ pressure but they couldn’t create any clear cut chances as full time approached, and they were indebted to Kandeke who was in the right place to clear off the line in the 86th minute from a corner.
FINAL SCORE : Winsford Utd 1 Northwich Vics 1
Vics go top of the League again on goal difference but having played a game more, but there are sure to be lots of twists and turns to come yet, especially on Saturday as Vics take on AFC Wolverhampton City whilst Hanley are at Brocton. Anything could still happen !
