Vics feel to defeat against in-form Brocton after a disappointing performance, especially in the first half.
In the first half, defences dominated overall, with Brocton having most of the possession and pressure but unable to test Mendes too often in the Vics goal despite forcing numerous corners. Vics resorted to long balls hoofed upfield, a tactic which didn’t work against a strong tall Brocton defence. Millington did test Mendes early on with an acrobatic effort before a good ball through found Vics’ winger Bas Yusuff clean through the Brocton defence before he was crudely brought down 25 yards out, not even a Yellow card given ! The resulting free kick was curled over the bar by Sean Cooke. Brocton had a great chance in the 16th minute as Dylan Millington was played through but fired his shot wide when he should have at least tested Mendes. Vics’ best chance of the first half came shortly afterwards as Kieran Hamm chased down a ball and crossed low across the area with Yusuff just failed to convert at the back post. Brocton then forced a series of corners as they pressed Vics back, but they were dealt with fairly easily by Vics. Mendes was called into action in the 38th minute as he superbly saved a Morgan Payne effort after he was put through by Ben Haddaway.
Brocton got the vital goal in the 47th minute as they broke quickly after Vics had lost the ball upfield, and Charlie King finished well after a fine through ball from Millington. Defences continued to dominate though Will Lloyd did well in the 57th minute as he ran through the defence but his shot out wide found the side netting. Vics were creating little overall though until the final 15 minutes as they started to play the football we know they can. Tanswell fired over the bar whilst a long throw from Kandeke was headed goalwards but Jake Thomas was on hand to somehow head the ball over the bar. Yusuff had a shot blocked as Vics pressed forward and time was running out. Josh Langley then agonisedly headed inches over the bar from close range from a corner in the 88th minute. Vics pushed and pushed but couldn’t find an equaliser despite 6 minutes of added time.
FINAL SCORE : BROCTON 1 VICS 0
A deserved win for Brocton as they were the better team for large portions of the matches with Vics only causing problems in the last 15/20 minutes.
