The match started brightly, but with neither side testing the goalkeepers in the first 25 minutes or so despite some good approach play. However Vics took the lead in the 29th minute with a spectacular chip from 25 yards out by A-Jay Leitch-Smith after he had won the ball and spotted the Brocton keeper,Kyle Langstone off his line, a quality goal. However, Brocton quickly equalized just a minute later, with Morgan Payne blasting a thunderbolt of a shot from 25 yards into the top corner from a wide angle. Payne then doubled his tally eight minutes later, finishing from close range after a deep corner was headed back across the six-yard box. The match now opened up and Vics were unlucky when Jefferson Abreu’s header was brilliantly saved by Langstone. A combination of keeper Mendes and Max Sutton then saved Vics from going further behind just before half-time as first Smith, then Payne had efforts stopped on the line.
HALF-TIME : Northwich Vics 1 Brocton 2
Vics quickly got back on level terms after the break as Jefferson Abreu scored on the rebound after a half-saved shot from Leitch-Smith. Vics continued to press with Abreu causing problems down the left and it was Abreu who went close in the 62nd minute as he headed inches over after a long throw into the area. After the early pressure in the half coming from Vics, Brocton were looking more dangerous as the match wore on and Vics were indebted to Mendes as at full stretch he brilliantly kept out a goal bound header from Ben Haddaway.
Despite all the best efforts, neither team could snatch a winner in a match that could have gone either way
