A poor performance from Vics today against a hard working Wolverhampton team who worked harder and wanted it more than Vics and they thoroughly deserved their win in a match that the referee tried to ruin.
Vics actually started off fairly well with Will Lloyd striking just wide from the edge of the area after 5 minutes. Shortly afterwards , Kieran Hamm was called offside ( correctly) after rounding the keeper after a good ball through and Matt Harrison struck over the bar via a deflection from a corner.
However Wolverhampton had a couple of chances too, and Olly West forced Prior in the Vics’ new into a fine save low down. They took the lead in the 28th minute as a ball across the area found Freddie Cockerell in space and he the time and skill to turn and volley the ball into the net from 15 yards out giving Prior no chance. A fine strike!
The match went into a lull now with neither keeper really being tested and few chances being created with the referee not allowing the match to flow.
The second half was much the same, lots of stops and starts and little action. Will Lloyd did well to get into the box in the 64th minute and find space for a shot but he skewed it well well when well placed. Harry Davis then picked up a second yellow card as he battled for the ball with Cockerell , earning himself an early bath and Wolverhampton should have taken immediate advantage as in the next attack , a goal bound shot came in, but somehow one of their own players actually cleared the ball off the line to save the Vics going two down. Will Lloyd was then sin binned for ten minutes after a dispute with the refereeing the match petered out with Vics never looking likely to get anything out of the match
All in all, the performance wasn’t good enough after going a goal down, and Vics will have to pick themselves up to ensure a play off place at the end of the season as Hanley seem odds on for the title.
