A second half performance full of quality, passion and commitment gave Vics a 3 - 0 win away at Stourport to keep them top of the table.
The first half, made difficult by the wind proved to be a half of two halves with Vics starting well with Stourport coming back into the match strongly in the twenty minutes before the break. Early on, Abreu was causing problems down the left whilst Cooke, Lloyd and Tanswell were controlling the midfield but chances were hard to come by. Tanswell fired a shot well wide whilst Cooke’s first time effort was also wide after he was slid in by Bas Yussuf after 18 minutes. Abreu then had a shot deflected wide for a corner , and was then inches away from converting a great low cross from Kandeke. Stourport were now coming back into the match and pressed hard for the last 15 minutes of the half. Vics didn’t help by giving away free-kicks on the edge of their area, which fortunately didn’t come to anything whilst a shot across goal in the 44th minute looked to be sneaking in at the far post but drifted inches wide. A similar chance fell to the hosts in first half added on time but again was dragged just wide as Swifts finished the half strongly.
Vics came out for the second half strongly as Sean Cooke intercepted a pass and tried an audacious first time lob which went just wide. However, just 2 minutes into the half, Vics took the lead and it was that man Jefferson Abreu again as he managed to chase down a long ball on the goal line, turn and fire a shot into the net at the second attempt after the keeper had saved the first. Cooke then just failed to get on the end of a Abreu cross after he had beaten his man yet again down the left as Vics continued to press forward. Swifts were then reduced to 10 men in the 68th minute as Abreu was cynically brought down as he had again beaten his man. Sean Cooke then made them pay even more as he curled a free kick into the top corner of the net giving the keeper no chance. It was then no surprise when Vics grabbed a third goal in the 83rd minute as Will Lloyd won the ball in the area, turned and fired an unstoppable shot into the net to cap another fine performance.
