The first half of the Northwich derby proved to be a cagey affair as both teams sounded each other out. First sight of goal went to the visitors as Sekouba Camara hit a tame shot which caused Mendes no problems. Lloyd and Sutton were linking up well down the left but the final ball into the middle kept letting Vics down. Vics’ first real chance came from a free kick in the 19th minute when the ball in was cleared out for Harry Davis to swing a volley over the bar. 30 minutes in, Vics did have the ball in the net as Jefferson Abreu finished well but the flag was up for offside ! Pity VAR isn’t in use as he looked onside ! but no goal. Abreu then headed wide from a corner . Vics then had the best chance of the first half on 37 minutes as Abreu was sent free down the left and sent a low cross in which evaded the sliding Sean Cooke by inches. An intriguing first half , but few chances.
HALF-TIME : Northwich Vics 0 1874 Northwich 0
Vics started the first half strongly with Will Igoe having a goal bound shot well blocked in the 46th minute, but Vics did take the lead minutes later as Will Lloyd beat his man and fired a great shot ifrom the edge of the area nto the net aided by a slight deflection which wrong footed the 1874 keeper. Vics were the better team now, and on 56 minutes Max Sutton flew down the left, and sent a beautiful cross in which Sean Cooke met with a stooping header which went wide. A good chance! Moments later, a quick counter by Vics led to a great through ball to Abreu who was in on goal but he was slightly offside. 67 minutes in and a good move led to Sean Cooke being found in loads of space in the middle of the box but he scuffed his first time shot well wide when he had the time and space to do better. Abreu, Cooke and then Harrison had shots in quick succession which were well blocked as they pressed for the second goal. Then in the 79th minute, Vics were punished for not taking their chances as Jason Coppack fired a great shot over Mendes to equalise for 1874 with virtually their only chance of the half. Just four minutes later, Vics gave away a free-kick on the edge of their area which Kyle Worsley fired just over the bar…close. However Vics were to get even closer to grabbing a winner , when in the 94th minute, Will Lloyd fired in a super shot which crashed against the crossbar with the keeper well beaten. So close !
FULL TIME : Northwich Vics 1 1874 Northwich 1
A match which will feel like a defeat for the Vics as they were made to pay for not getting a second goal during a dominant second half performance. However they are 4 point clear of the chasing pack as they go into New Year, and a run of 3 difficult matches achieved without defeat.
We go into 2026 with hope !
