Goals: Northwich Vics : Djabi 17’
Vics stretched their winning run to 7matches now and maintained their record of not conceding a goal on their travels this season.
Vics started off fast and earned a corner in the first minute which set the tone for the rest of the half as Vics dominated and Stone failed to test Mendes and the Vics defence apart from a few long throws in the area. Vics took the lead in the 17th minute as Matt Harrison forced Gill in the Stone net into a brilliant save turning the ball away the corner. This was floated in and only half cleared by Stone out to Joe Hurst who quickly sent it out wide for Sean Cooke to curl a great cross in for Mamadou Djabi to send a stooping header past Gill. Djabi was then denied a second by a brilliant close range save by Gill after another great cross in, this time by Joe Hurst. Sean Cooke and then Jefferson Abreu had efforts well saved in quick succession whilst Abreu was then brought down in the area as he got infront of his defender but the referee waved play on for some reason. Vics continued to press as the half wore on , and Harrison fired a long range effort inches over the bar before Mendes made his first save in the 4th minute of injury time as he comfortably collected a flicker header from a corner.
HALF-TIME : Stone Old Alleynians 0 Northwich Vics 1
The second half was a quieter affair as Stone got into the match more but were still failing to make any chances to test Mendes. Sean Cooke sent an opportunist effort way over the bar after seeing the keeper off his line whilst Atkinson danced past 3 defenders before his shot was well blocked. Although not quite as dominant, Vics were still creating the best chances. Max Sutton had a header brilliantly saved by Gill in the 68th minute whilst Zeke Eme was denied twice as his first shot came back out to him as he did well to get thru the Stone defence. Stone did have the one chance in the 76th minute as Will Holt got goal side but sliced his shot well wide when he should have tested Mendes at least. Vics professionally saw out the remaining few minutes with ease to earn another 3 points
FULL-TIME : Stone Old Alleynians 0 Northwich Vics 1
Another 3 points, another clean sheet as Vics stay at the top of the table. Maybe they should have scored a couple of more goals their dominance deserved but they ground out the result with the defence rarely troubled.
