Whitchurch Alport : Jasper 38’
VICS returned to the top of the table with a hard fought victory over Whitchurch Alport. They got off to the best possible start as Harry Davis scored his third goal of the season in the 6th minute as he headed in a long throw from AJ Kandeke. They were then indebted to keeper Andre Mendes when he made a great save to his right to claw out a header from Charlie Edge. Although the match was end to end, Vics were creating the best chances with Will Lloyd firing a free kick just over the bar, then side footing a volley just wide . Mikey Lawson flicked a header just wide from a corner before Sam Gill had a great chance as he had time in the box to fire in a half volley forcing keeper Jack Sheward into a marvellous save. Vics did finally get their second in the 33rd minute after a splendid move as Max Sutton sent Abreu down the left where he beat his man for pace and strength before crossing low for Mamadou Djabi to fire home from close range for his first goal since his return to Vics. Alport however quickly got back into the match just 5 minutes later as Adam Jasper went on a mazy solo run in the area and slotted the ball past Mendes.
HALF-TIME : Northwich Vics 2 Whitchurch Alport 1
The second half proved to be a tight battle with Alport having most of the possession and gaining a dominance in midfield whilst Vics defended stoutly and were creating the better chances when they did have the ball. Alport did go close after 51 minutes though as Edge put a great ball across the goalmouth which just evaded the onrushing Theo Knight. Harry Davis again forced Sheward into a fine save with another header whilst Ryan Atkinson was unlucky as he crashed a powerful shot against the post after cutting in from the right. So close. Davis again went close with a flicked header whilst Alport had a couple of shots which didn’t really test Mendes in the Vics net, and despite all their pressure they were creating little to trouble Vics. Indeed Vics should have extended their lead in the 76th minute as after great interplay between Abreu and Sutton , the full-back's ball across was met by Sean Cooke at the back post but he sent it just wide of the post. Cooke and Atkinson both had shots that were well saved by Sheward as Vics cleverly game managed the last 10 minutes or so of the match.
FULL-TIME : Northwich Vics 2 Whitchurch Alport 1
Not the most fluent display from Vics tonight , but they still created chance to score more goals, and defended with grit and determination in the second half to hold onto their lead as Alport pressed forward.
