Abbey Hulton Utd : Penalty 90’
An excellent display by the Vics for the whole 90 minutes which absolutely blew Abbey Hulton away.
A quiet first few minutes as both teams sussed each other out, with Vics going close through a James Potter strike from just inside the area which rattled the post. Joe Hurst then fired an effort over the bar as he collected the ball on the edge of the area as Abbey Hulton struggled to get into the match. Then in the 19th minute the first goal arrived. Matt Harrison sent a defence splitting pass for Max Sutton to send a cross in and A Jay Leitch-Smith reacted quickest to head in a rebound after the Abbey Hulton keeper , Daniel Roberts, had made a great save. Vics were’t stopping there though, and just two minutes later they doubled their lead. Max Sutton got to the byline, and fired a low cross in, which Roberts could only push into his own net. The match settled into a lull with Vics controlling the game in midfield with Harrison and Abreu causing problems down either wing. Then in the 33rd minute, another brilliant move by Vics saw Jefferson Abreu cross from the right for James Potter to tap home easily to put Vics three up. Vics then had claims for a penalty turned down as Abreu looked to have been taken out in the area but the referee waved play on.
HALF-TIME : Northwich Vics 3 Abbey Hulton Utd 0
Any hopes Abbey Hulton had of getting back into the match were quickly extinguished just 4 minutes into the second half. Ryan Atkinson received the ball down the right, turned his full back one way, then the other and back again , got to the byline and put the ball on a plate for Leitch-Smith to tap in. A quality goal. Vics didn’t take their foot off the pedal though and Abreu just couldn’t quite turn in yet another great Atkinson cross. Abbey Hulton made a rare foray upfield, and in the 66th minute , Matty Clarke was in the right place at the right time to head off the line after a fine header by Kie Brown. The next minute Vics got their fifth as the impressive Atkinson once again beat his man and slammed an effort under the keeper into the net. Abbey Hulton kept fighting though, and Mendes was forced into a great save to tip a free kick onto the bar and Davis cleared the rebound. Vics made it six in the 85th minute as three substitutes combined. Kandeke was played in down the right by Mahoney, he took a touch before putting it on a plate for Sam Deering to steer home. Abbey Hulton then got a consolation goal with the final kick of the match as they were awarded a penalty for handball , which they slotted into the bottom right corner.
