Penalty Shoot Out : Vics 2 Yarm & Eaglescliffe 3

Vics paid the penalty for not taking their chances in the first half when they were the better team, and having a poor display ( against 10 men for much of it ) in the second half resulting in a penalty shoot out which was dramatic.
Yarm came with a game plan of physicality, slowing the game down, and resolute defence which they executed perfectly.

Yarm actually had the first shot at goal from the edge of the box, which caused Mendes no trouble, before Vics started to dominate. Will Lloyd forced Callum Roberts in the Yarm net into a fantastic save after a great move involving Rokka, Duckworth and Bentley who chested the ball down for Lloyd to strike. Vics were peppering the Yarm goal , Rokka shot from 40 yards, Bentley fired just wide whilst Roberts pulled off another quality save tipping a goal bound shot away for a corner. Vics were constantly pressing, Rokka had a shot well blocked whilst Atkinson’s cross flashed across the box just evading everyone. It looked like Vics would pay for their profligacy when in the 40th minute, Yarm on a rare foray upfield, Tom Atkinson just had the whole goal to shoot at, but Andy Keogh was there on the line to save the day and Harry Williams put the rebound wide from close range.

HALF TIME : Northwich Vics 0 Yarm & Eaglescliffe 0

The second half proved even more frustrating for Vics. Lloyd pulled a shot inches wide of the post in the 47th minute, before a brilliant move from Vics found Rokka but his low effort skimmed past the far post. Joe Duckworth then had a golden chance in the 50th minute to open the scoring but shanked his effort well wide from the middle of the box. Yarm immediately countered and Mendes acrobatically tipped a looping effort over the bar. Yarm were then reduced to 10 men as Larkin was dismissed for a second yellow offence of pulling back Rokka when he was through. This should have spurred Vics on but seemed to have the opposite effect and they struggled to create chances against the resolute defending. Yarm were threatening on the break as well with Tom Atkinson firing well over. Substitute Djabi flicked a header just over for Vics whilst Mendes made a wonderful save to deny Cofinas at point blank range. Vics were short on ideas as time was ticking away and the prospect of Penalties became a reality

FULL TIME : Northwich Vics 0 Yarm & Eaglescliffe 0

Suffice to say, it was probably the worst penalty shootout ever ( by both teams ) with just 5 successful efforts out of 14 ! with Yarm taking the spoils 3 -2. Mendes will feel let down after his efforts in goal !

PENALTY SHOOT OUT : Vics 2 Yarm & Eaglescliffe 3
All credit to Yarm & Eaglescliffe who did what they had to do and we wish them luck in the next round.
