Following Vics' dramatic victory over Bootle , Vics now face Step 4 side Atherton Collieries on Saturday 5th September in the 1st Round Qualifying of the Emirates FA Cup. Like Bootle before, Atherton Collieries are in the Northern Premier League West, one level above Vics where they currently lie in 11th position after 2 victories and 2 defeats. They have lost to Mossley and Padiham , but had a good 4-0 nil win against Stalybridge Celtic on Monday to recover from crashing out of the FA Trophy on the Saturday after a 4-1 defeat at Congleton Town.
Atherton Collieries, were formed in 1916 by miners from the 6 pits which were in operation in the district at that time and were founding members of the North West Counties Football League in 1982 and remained there until 2017, when they earned promotion to the Northern Premier League for the first time in the club’s history.
Despite this history, the two Clubs appear to have never played each other in a competitive fixture ( please let me know if you know different ) with the only recent match being a pre-season friendly on the 29th August 2020 when Vics won 2-0.

Vics will be full of confidence after their 2 wins against Abbey Hulton United and then West Didsbury and Chorlton over the Bank Holiday Weekend to remain unbeaten throughout August so let s get down to The Apec and cheer the lads on.

DIRECTIONS :

From Northwich, follow the one way system signposted Runcorn A533 out past the Victoria Infirmary , through Winnington, turning left still on the A533 at Winnington Swing Bridge. Follow the A533 through Barnton and Little Leigh. At the Bartington traffic lights, continue straight across
for another 3.5 miles before taking the 1st exit at the roundabout still on the A533. Follow the road round for 0.4 miles and take the 2nd exit onto Murdishaw Avenue. The entrance to the ground is situated on the right immediately after the Queen of Hearts Pub.
