Well, what a dramatic start to the match as Vics stormed into a 2 goal lead in the first couple of minutes. Virtually from the kick off, the ball reached Matty Clarke who brilliantly played the ball into the path of Joe Duckworth just inside the area who deftly flicked the ball over Jake Parsisson in the New Mills net to give the Vics the lead. Amazingly a minute later, it was two, and what a goal it was, as the ball came out to Matty Clarke around 28 yards out and he slammed a screamer into the top corner…Goal of the Season decided already ! . New Mills were shell-shocked and it could have been worse for them as in the 3rd minute, Ryan Atkinson looked to have been taken out in the area for a clear penalty, but referee waved play on, and Duckworth steered the loose ball inches wide of the post.
After this dramatic start, the match unsurprisingly settled down though Vics were still showing an attacking threat and there was a golden chance in the 13th minute as Duckworth did well down the left to cross low but Kieran Hamm just couldn't get the right contact on the ball to steer it home. New Mills were slowly trying to find a way back into the match but Vics’ defence were steadfast. 31 minutes in, Lee Jackson put a cross in and Hamm’s header glanced the cross bar whilst 5 minutes later Duckworth was through again but his shot bounces back from the post and Atkinson’s clever back heel rebound was well blocked before it could cross the line.
New Mills gained a free kick just outside the area on 38th minute after Luc Ferry’s drive through midfield was stopped by a foul, but the well worked free-kick was well saved by Mendes in the Vics’ net.

New Mills hadn’t given up though and had plenty of the ball in the second half though rarely threatening too much whilst Vics were content to keep them at arms length and threaten down the wings. Atkinson did well down the right and tried to nip the ball back across goal which came to nothing when a shot might have been a better choice. It was Atkinson again who threatened to get Vics’ third in the 72nd minute when he just failed to get a touch on an excellent Max Sutton cross. Vics were content to see the match out , though had chances to increase their lead, Hamm headed over from a Rokka free-kick after 82 minutes, and Birchall couldn't get a decisive touch on another good ball in from the left as full time beckoned.
