Vics crashed out of the FA Vase after surrendering a 2 goal lead after a stunning fightback by Droylsden.
Vics made the start they wanted when they scored after just 3 minutes. Abreu played a cross in which looked slightly overhit but Sean Cooke gathered the ball outside the far post and fired the ball into the net from an acute angle. Vics continued to press as they dominated the play, Cooke forced the Droylsden keeper into a good save from a free-kick in the 9th minute before Vics had a half hearted claim for a penalty a few minutes later as Jefferson Abreu beat his full-back and drove into the area where he went down after a 50-50 tackle….no penalty though. Matty Clarke then forced the keeper into another good save after hitting a first time effort from the edge of the shot but Vics finally got their second in the 19th minute, and a great goal it was too. Sam Deering made a brilliant run down the right before crossing low for Mama Djabi to slam the ball home from close range. It was looking like it was going to be another goal filled day for the Vics. Vics were totally in control at the moment and they looked to press home their advantage. Matt Harrison was a constant threat at corners whilst Sam Deering was causing problems down the right. Deering beat his man twice before stinging the keeper’s hands with a powerful shot in the 28th minute and then slipped Sean Cooke in with a great pass but he couldn’t quite get his shot away as the defence closed around him. However Droylsden then got back into the match as Nellson Van struck an effort into the bottom corner from the edge of the area. This gave Droylsden a sense of self belief and they got a leveller just 4 minutes later as Vics turned off and Van was free at the back post to fire home.
So despite Vics dominating for 35 minutes, they went in at half time level.
HALF-TIME : Droylsden 2 Northwich Vics 2
Droylsden were now up for it and the second half started fairly evenly , but it was “The Bloods” who went ahead in the 57th minute after a long free kick was won in the air by a Droylsden player and the ball played to Nellson Van who finished with ease past Mendes. Poor defending by the Vics. Worse was to come just a minute later, as Vics made a complete hash of it at the back and Cody Artwell was left with the simple task of putting the ball into an empty net. Vics had self destructed ! Mendes then pulled off a tremendous save to tip an effort over the bar to deny Droylsden a fifth. Vics tried to respond but Droylsden were managing the game well, slowing the game down with numerous stoppages and not allowing Vics any time on the ball and “The Bloods” went on to record a well deserved victory.
Vics will be kicking themselves for a slack 10 minutes before the break and a second half where they couldn’t match Droylsden’s desire and they will have to recover quickly with a difficult run of matches coming up.
