After battling hard to stay in the FA Cup on Saturday, Vics went out with a whimper last night.
Although Vics could have taken the lead in the 5th minute when Unwin drove forward and slipped the ball through to Kaleb Parkinson who forced a fantastic save from Jakovlevs in the Town goal, the tone of the match was set in the 12th minute when Oli Roberts caught Vics napping from a quickly taken free kick in his own half and sent the ball over Livesey’s head into the back of the net. Quick thinking and brilliant technique by the Town man, but poor from Vics. Livesey did make some amends a few minutes later, pulling off a superb save diving to his left to deny Gaz Hill. Vics went two down after more poor defending allowed Will Proctor to strike a good effort from distance. Vics were poor with too many aimless long balls though Unwin and Perry did look dangerous when they did get the ball on the ground.
HALF-TIME : Northwich Vics 0 Barnoldswick T 2
As in the first half, Vics conceded again in the 12th minute of the second half, as a long ball caught out the Vics defence and Will Proctor finished at the second attempt. San Unwin did give Vics a glimmer of hope in the 65th minute when he finished well after picking up the loose ball as Callum Parker closed down the keeper well. However all hope was diminished just 3 minutes later when Town broke down the right, put the ball into the box and there was Proctor on hand to complete his hat-trick. Another poor goal to concede. Dom Williams did hit the bar with a header from a corner in the 77th minute, then Perry just failed to convert a header from a brilliant Parker cross as Vics pressed forward towards the end. Max Leeson did manage to pull one back with a fantastic volley at the far post after a corner late on, but it was scant consolation for the Vics
