Northwich Victoria rounded off the season by lifting the Mid-Cheshire Cup, after a penalty shoot out win over Winsford United at Wincham Park. Vics were on the front foot from the start, and after 9 minutes, they were inches away from taking the lead when Darrhyl Mason's shot was cleared from on the goal line. A couple of minutes later, it was Dominic Craig who had a chance as we was one on one , but his shot was saved well by Lathom. Vics continued to press, and after 29 minutes John Connolly's shot flashed just past the post. Half chances continued to be made by the Vics, but none of them were taken before half time, with Winsford rarely threatening Taberner in the Vics' net.

HALF-TIME : Northwich Vics 0 Winsford Utd 0

The second half carried on in much the same way, with Vics spurning a great chance after 51 minutes when Vics were 2 against 1 against the keeper, but Craig's pass across to the unmarked Brownhill was poor and the chance had gone. 63 minutes in, and this time Darrhyll Mason found himself up against Lathom , but his placed effort went agonisingly wide of the far post. Winsford United then took the lead , against the run of play, as Dave Short struck a fine effort from 22 yards out right into the corner of the Vics' net giving Taberner no chance. It looked liked Vics were going to pay for their missed chances despite their dominance. However, a cheaply earned corner taken by Ryan Winder after 84 minutes was firmly met by the unmarked Kieron Kenny at the back post and the ball thundered into the net. Vics pushed forward even more now trying to find the winner but Winsford held firm and the match proceded to penalties.

NORTHWICH VICTORIA : MID-CHESHIRE DISTRICT CHALLENGE CUP CHAMPIONS 2018/19
Manager Steve Wilkes' view : "I'm really pleased at the win, thoroughly deserved after the season we've had, and I feel it was a travesty that we haven't won the game tonight. We missed so many chances and then they scored a great goal with about 15 minutes to go, and you think it's not going to be. But we were a goal down against Histon and Sholing and Chertsey and came back, there's great belief in the dressing room, and I think even the most hardened Winsford fan would agree that the right team won.
After getting beaten on penalties in the Vase semi-final against Chertsey, the lads showed character and stood up to the test again.
We had nine people put their hands up to take penalties, which is good.
When we practised penalties before the Chertsey game, Kieron Kenny was brilliant and he wwas going to be one of the penalty takers in teh shoot out at Chertsey.
But he got cramp towards the end of the game and we had to change it. I'm not saying that made a difference on the day (at Chertsey) but it was good to see him score tonight.
The club is a good place to be at the minute".
