My Captain, My Captain!

My Captain, My Captain!

Matty Clarke agrees to another year at the Vics.

Northwich Victoria are absolutely thrilled to announce that club captain and legendary utility man Matty Clarke has signed on for the upcoming campaign, extending his remarkable stay with the Trickies.

"Clarkey" is synonymous with Northwich Victoria. As the club’s longest-serving current player, his decision to remain at the club secures a vital piece of the puzzle for the squad both on the pitch and in the dressing room.

Clarke has been here for 11 seasons now, and this latest extension will take him into his 12th year of wearing the green and white with pride. Having made his debut back in 2015, the skipper has racked up an incredible 312 appearances for the club, chipping in with 17 goals along the way—including a memorable strike that deservedly won him the Goal of the Season award back in 2016/17.

Known as the ultimate team player, Clarke has remarkably played in every single position on the pitch during his decade-long tenure, even pulling on the gloves to do a job as goalkeeper when the team needed him most.

"One of our own"
First Team Manager Lee Duckworth could not hide his delight at securing the skipper’s services for another year, praising both Clarke's unwavering loyalty and his impeccable professionalism.

"To have someone so loyal to a football club in this day and age is so very rare," Duckworth said. "Clarkey should be celebrated for that loyalty to the football club.

"He continues to look after himself and ensure his fitness is at the required level to help him perform for the team at a good level. He’s one of the club's own and will always have a place at this club."

A True Vics Legend
Since first walking through the gates over a decade ago, Clarke has personified what it means to play for Northwich Victoria. From crucial blocks and spectacular goals to lifting silverware, filling in wherever needed, and leading by example, he remains the heartbeat of the team.

As Vics prepare for the challenges of the new season, having a leader who understands the ethos of the club inside and out is an invaluable asset.

Fantastic to have you staying home, Skipper!
