Northwich Victoria are delighted to announce the return of forward Matty Birchall, who has committed his future to the Trickies ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

If you were among the Vics faithful watching yesterday’s pre-season friendly against Old Altrinchamians, you likely spent ninety minutes asking who the prolific ‘Trialist A’ was. In a stunning display, Birchall re-announced himself to the Vics fans in style, bagging an incredible four goals to fire the lads to victory and secure his return to the club.

A Proven Goalscorer Returns
Birchall’s footballing journey began in the youth ranks at Bradford City before he moved on to Crewe FC. He first arrived at Vics ahead of the 2020/21 season, quickly establishing himself as a fan favorite and a lethal threat in front of goal.

Across his initial two-and-a-half-year spell with the club, Matty racked up an impressive 38 goals in 79 appearances, including a spectacular 21-goal haul during the 2021/22 season. After moving to Runcorn Linnets in January 2023, he enjoyed spells with Whitchurch Alport, 1874 Northwich, and Ramsbottom United, before spending the last two seasons leading the line for Winsford United.

Now, he’s back where he played some of his finest football, ready to add more fire power to the Vics attack.

First Team Manager, Lee Duckworth, was thrilled to secure Birchall's signature following his weekend masterclass:

Speaking on his return, Matty Birchall said:
