Vics despite dominating this match had to be content with a draw against a resolute Hanley

Vics started with 2 debutants in the line up, loan signing Kieran Nolan coming into the midfield, and Scott Reed ( brother of Jamie) coming in to cover for the injured Danny Taberner in goal. Vics started fast, and Jamie Reed , first with a shot that went just wide and then with a glancing header from a Tom Kilifin cross, had the first two chances in the first couple of minutes as Vics looked to impose themselves on Hanley. In the 6th minute, again from a Kilifin pass, Ryan Winder sent a fizzing shot just wide . Six minutes later, a foul by Beaumont for Hanley, for which he was booked led to a free kick for Vics, which was whipped in by Winder but Brandon Barski put his header over the bar. It was all Vics and just a minute alter, another chance as Harvey Whyte nicked the ball in midfield and laid the ball through to Ben Greenop, but again the shot was just wide. Vics should have taken the lead in the 15th minute, when a great ball over the top by Kieron Kenny found Jamie Reed one on one with the keeper, but his shot was straight at the keeper. Vics produced the best move of the match in the 26th minute when Greenop pinged a great pass out to the left, finding Kilifin who drilled the ball across goal to the onrushing Ryan Winder but he could only poke the ball wide. A few minutes later, another great chance for Vics as Jamie Reed danced around his defender and picked out Greenop in the 18 yard area but his shot was straight at the keeper when he had the whole goal to aim for. Great chance! . Vics continued in the ascendency , dominating the ball with further efforts by Kilifin and Winder going over the bar.

HALF-TIME : Vics 0 Hanley T 0

The second half continued in the same vein as the first, with Hanley struggling to get out of their half, with Vics continually pressing. In the 48th minute, Whyte found Kilifin in the box, who got to the ball before the keeper but his touch again went wide of the post. A series of corners led to nothing, with Vics failing to get the final ball right time after time. In the 64th minute, Jamie Reed again skinned his defender, but his cross was somehow tipped round the post by the keeper, and then a minute later, a Harvey Whyte effort was spilled by the keeper, but somehow he managed to bundle it round the post for a corner. Lucky Keeper! Hanley were now sensing a chance now and were coming into the game more and it took a wonderful double save by Scott Reed , first from a shot then a quick recovery save from the rebound, to stop them taking the lead. However, Vics finally took the lead in the 87th minute as Tom Kilifin latched onto a through ball, easily shrugged off his defender, and slotted the ball past the hapless Woolrich in the Hanley net. That should have been that, but just as the clock ticked to full time, confusion in the Vics defence led to Neil Cope slamming the ball home from close range. Even at this late stage, Vics could have snatched it as a corner led to the ball being cleared off the Hanley line .

A match that Vics should have won handsomely , but if you don't take your chances, you don't win !
