Vics move up to 4th after convincing win

COMPETITION - Hallmark Security League VENUE - Wincham Park, Northwich DATE - Wednesday 23rd February 2019.
Attendance - 151

LINE-UP - VICS : Taberner, Brownhill L, Barski, Grimshaw, Fleming (Camozzi 39') , Winder, Craig (Whittle 16'), Clarke (Darr 64'), Brownhill J , Doran , Darr (Matthews 76'),
Un-used sub - Connolly, Doran
GOALS -
Vics’ - Matthews 3', Mason 22' Own Goal 32', J Brownhill 78' 90+3', Darr 87'

Vics started the game on the front foot, and took the lead in the 3rd minute, when a great cross in from the right by Joel Brownhill, was glanced into the net by Brian Matthews, for his 50th goal for the club. Vics were then forced to make a change with Billy Whittle coming on for the injured Dominic Craig, but this failed to disrupt Vics as they continued to dictate the game. After 19 minutes, Vics broke quickly after a West Didsbury free kick was cleared, and Joel Brownhill set up Brian Matthews on the edge of the area, but his powerful rising shot was palmed away for a corner by West's keeper, Burgess. The resulting corner was headed wide. A minute later, and West had their first effort as good interplay led to Shaw having an effort which went high over the bar. Vics responded to this threat, and earned a corner which was emphatically met by Darrhyl Mason to put the Vics 2 up after only 22 minutes. Vics were now playing the ball around well, and extended their lead after 32 minutes, when Joel Brownhill's low cross after a jinking run , just evaded Matthews, but hit the heel of the unfortunate Dixon and crept into the corner of the net.

HALF-TIME - Northwich Vics 3 West Didsbury & Chorlton 0

The second half started quietly with little action at either end. West's keeper, Burgess was forced into 2 good saves as he parried a Joel Brownhill effort, and reacted quickly to save Brian Matthews follow up effort. After 78 minutes, Vics were awarded a penalty, presumably for holding in the box after a corner , though it wasn't obvious to most of us . Joel Brownhill stepped up and struck the ball into the top left of the net. This seemed to re-awake Vics, and after 88 minutes, the best move of the evening led to Vics' fifth goal, as Darrhyl Mason's teasing low cross from the right, was met by Jordan Darr at the far post. Vics weren't finished yet, and in the third minute of injury time, Joel Brownhill picked up a stray pass and scampered clear to slid the ball under Burgess into the net.

FULL TIME - Northwich Vics 6 West Didsbury & Chorlton 0

Vics’ boss Steve Wilkes' post-match verdict on the six star show -

"Im absolutely delighted with the performance and obviously the result; but more importantly for me - it was the professionalism the lads had shown from minute one.
It’s always difficult when you’ve played in such a big game previously (Sholing in the F.A Vase q-f) and with us making five changes to the starting X1, it would have been easy for us to start slowly but to score within 3 minutes was the perfect start.
I’m very pleased for Brian Matthews on scoring his 50th goal for the club, a fantastic achievement. "
