A match that never really got going , and played at a slow pace in the Easter sunshine. Irlam started the brightest, and after just 3 minutes they were close to going ahead when Liam Pollitt fired a low cross across the box which reached Boland at the far post but his shot flashed wide. Irlam took a deserved lead in the 17th minute when Boland floated a cross in which Danny Taberner failed to claim, and Liam Pollitt vollied home. Vics tried to respond, and Jordan Darr easily beat his man out wide, and sent in a cross which just failed to find a waiting green shirt, and just a minute later, a free kick in from Ryan Winder was glanced on by Brandon Barski but the Irlam defence dealt with it comfortably. Vics best chance came after 24 minutes when Matty Clarke did well down the right, and his cross was met by Darrhyl Mason but his header didn't have enough power on to beat White in the Irlam goal. Irlam quickly responded and should have extended their lead when Buckley got in behind the Vics defence but put his shot wide with Taberner beaten. Tabbs had to be at his best in the 34th minute when Buckley wriggled through the Vics' defence and laid the ball to Boland whose fierce shot was well pushed around the post by the Vics' keeper. Vics earned a free kick 25 yeards out after 37 minutes , but Ryan Winder's effort was wide of the post.

HALF-TIME : Vics 0 Irlam 1
Vics started the second half on the front foot and were pressing Irlam back. After 53 minutes, Ryan Winder floated a corner into the box which was met by Mason but his header was off target and out for a goal kick. 60 minutes in, and Mason skinned his defender and was promptly brought down on the right edge of the area, the resulting free kick was cleared but retrieved by Dominic Craig who cleverly beat his man inside the box and was chopped down, but somehow the referee waved play on. Vics kept pushing, and two quick corners came to nothing then after 69 minutes a fracas on the near side resulted in 3 bookings though the away side were lucky that neither the referee nor his assistant spotted a head butt by an Irlam player. Vics kept pushing , but couldn't create any clear cut chances with the few corners they had coming to nothing, and Irlam managed to close out the game fairly comfortably.

FULL-TIME - Vics 0 Irlam 1

Vics’ MOM - Joe Camozzi

Manager's Steve Wilkes View on the Match : "Really disappointing performance today. For the first time this season I was disappointed in the the players desire and attitude. I’ve never had to say that this season. I know it’s been a long few weeks since exiting the Vase, with games coming thick and fast, but we have to be better than we were today. It would be easy for me to say, ahhh we had a lot of games recently but the players know that’s not my style. We have a cup final in 9 days time and a game on Saturday that will decide who wins the title. So for those reasons alone we can’t think the seasons over yet. "
