Vics completed the double against Charnock Richard with goals from Robert Doran and Jordan Darr proving decisive in a tight end to end match. Charnock's ever dangerous striker Carl Grimshaw had the first half chance after 3 minutes as he tried a long range shot which Tabener saved easily. Vics responded when a neat interchange between Doran and Joel Brownhill led to Brownhill shot being saved by the keeper's legs. Next after 11 minutes, it was Doran's turn to try his luck with a long range shot but Haslem in the Charnock goal was equal to it. Just 3 minutes later, Harvey Whyte whipped corner was met by Andy FitzGerald , but his header was blocked and then somehow cleared by the defence. Both sides were now pushing forward at every opportunity, making for an entertaining game . Charnock nearly took the lead after 26 minutes when a cleared corner was sent back to the unmarked Grimshaw on the far post, but his header went wide. 3 minutes later, it was Vics' turn to miss a golden opportunity when Doran was set free down the right, and his drilled cross was met by Joel Brownhill but his shot was well saved by Haslem. At the other end, it was Tabener's turn to make a fine save when Woods blasted a shot goal wards after the ball was cleared to him from a corner. On the stroke of half time, another big chance for Vics was wasted when Haslem failed to collect the ball but Brownhill failed to get the angle right and the ball ended up in the side netting.

HALF-TIME - Vics 0-0 Charnock Richard

The second half started the same way as the first half went, with both teams pressing, but without any clear cut chances and the game being end to end. Darrhyl Mason forced Haslem into a fine save when he blasted a shot goalwards, and the resulting corner was easily cleared. After 63 minutes, a Grimshaw cross for Charnock somehow managed to evade Noblet who was only a yard out. 4 minutes later, it was Noblet's turn to provide a cross for Grimshaw but his header was weak , and it was easy for Tabener to save. In the pattern of this end to end match, a couple of minutes later, it was Vic's turn to come close when a cross from the right was met by an overhead volley from Doran, but it went just wide of the left post. It would have been a cracker ! However after 73 minutes, another pin point cross from the right by Joe Camozzi for Vics found Robert Doran free in the area, and he made no mistake with his powerful header to put the Vics one up. Doran and then Cooke then had long range efforts to no avail whilst Charnock always looked dangerous as they pressed forward looking for an equaliser. In the second minute of injury time, Jordan Darr's speed took him past the keeper, but his shot was blocked by a Charnock defender. However just two minutes later, he again used his pace to beat Charnock's keeper to the ball, and this time he slid the ball into the net to make the game safe for the Vics.

FULL TIME - Vics 2 - 0 Charnock Richard

Vics’ M.O.M - Robert Doran. Dominant hold up play upfront, and always looked dangerous highlighted by his powerful header for the first goal

Steve Wilkes view : "Another hard fought victory against a very good, well organised side in Charnock Richard. It was really Important that we bounced back quickly after last weeks defeat at home to Bootle; and we’ve done that, so I’m really pleased with the performance Especially in the second half - and the result"
and his thoughts on Irlam away on Boxing Day.
"No injury worries. Irlam will be a very tough game as they’ll be looking to bounce back from their defeat at home to Squires Gate."

Up next for Vics’ is an AWAY league game Vs Irlam on Boxing Day with an earlier than usual kick-off of 1.30pm
