A first half where Vics had the best chances but failed to take them whilst City had two chances and took them both.
It was only two minutes in when Vics could have taken an early lead as Will Lloyd got in behind his defender but was denied by a good save by the City keeper , and Harry Davis’s effort on the rebound was cleared off the line! City came straight back and Max Sutton sliced a clearance from a low cross but fortunately straight at Mendes in goal. Abreu then just failed to get on the end of Yussuf cross whilst Leitch-Smith forced a good save from the City goalkeeper after finding space in the area. Leo Tanswell then had an effort cleared as Vics pushed forward. Kieran Hamm ( on for the injured Leitch-Smith ) was then pushed to the ground off the ball in the area, but the referee, who had a poor day, failed to give anything. AFC Wolverhampton City then took the lead as a free kick by Luke Ward from 25 yards out flew into the net despite Mendes getting a despairing hand to it. This stunned Vics and 6 minutes later it was two as a defensive lapse allowed Luqman Wirma to round Mendes and tap into an empty net after a quick break. Vics rallied and just before half time, firstly Yussuf’s stinging drive was well saved, then Vics were denied a clear penalty for handball just a minute later, leaving Vics to go into half time two goals down.

HALF-TIME : Northwich Vics 0 AFC Wolverhampton City 2

City made the easy running in the second half as they had an effort just over the bar, and then forced two quick corners but it was Vics who pulled a goal back in the 52nd minute. A corner was superbly sent over to the far post where Harry Davis had pulled off his man, giving him time to control the ball and fire a volley into the bottom corner. A well worked routine. It didn’t take long for an equaliser to come as Will Lloyd sent a ball into the box where it was handled by a City defender….Penalty ! Up stepped Jefferson Abreu to confidently fire the ball into the net. It looked like the stage was set for a dramatic come back but despite a couple of good strikes from Will Igoe, Vics failed to press home their advantage as City did everything to slow the game down. Matt Harrison was then shown a second yellow in the 85th minute and with teams settled for a point apiece.

FULL TIME : Northwich Vics 2 AFC Wolverhampton City 2

Two points dropped but after trailing at the break, it could well have been worse. City took 2 of their few chances whilst Vics failed to be as clinical, especially in the first half but time will tell whether this is an important point for the Vics.
