Vics reached the semi finals of the FA Vase with a hard fought 3 - 1 extra time victory over Sholing ay Wincham Park infant of a crowd of 719. The match started quietly , with both teams testing each other out, but creating little of note with Vics forcing three corners but failing to make anything of them. Indeed it was Sholing who took the lead with their first chance after 27 minutes, when a long hopeful ball found Lee Wort in space between the 2 Vics central defenders, and he fired neatly into the net past the despairing Danny Taberner. Chances were still at a minimum with little being created by either team but with Vics trying to apply the pressure. On 43 minutes, a crude challenge on Brad Cooke by Sholing's scorer Lee Wort resulted in a deserved red card, and Vics sensed it was their chance. Right on half time, a peach of a deep cross by debutant Ryan Winder , was met by Brad Cooke at the far post , and he deftly guided the ball past Gosney to bring Vics level at the break.

Half-time : Vics 1 Sholing 1

Any expectation that Vics would now take control of the match against only 10 men proved wrong, as Sholing managed the game well and Vics never managed to get a flow going. Indeed it was Sholing who were looking the most likely, and after 65 minutes, Alex Sawyer pounced on a short back pass by Vics, and Vics were indebted to Taberner as he blocked brilliantly, and the follow up effort by Hoole was wide. Few other chances were created by either side, and the game became cagey as the prospect of 30 minutes of extra time beckoned.

90 Mins : Vics 1 Sholing 1

Sholing again were having the better of the game despite being down to 10 men, and Taberner had to be at his best to keep out a shot by Jake Hoole from 30 yards, and then again for a shot on the turn from Dan Mason. Vics were battling however, and their own Mason, Darrhyl always looked dangerous as they kept trying to create something, but the first half ended with still all to play for.

Extra Time Half Time : Vics 1 Sholing 1

Vics started the second period of extra time better, and were looking more dangerous now than a tiring Sholing side , and they finally made the break through in the 106th minute when Ryan Winder fired a shot from the left of the box, which took a deflection and into the back of the net to send the fans wild . Now it was all Vics, and just 2 minutes later , Darrhyl Mason was desperately unlucky when his fierce shot hammered the inside of the post with Gosney well beaten. However, Mason was not to be denied a goal, and he made the game safe for Vics as he calmly sidestepped his man in the box and hammered the ball into the top of the net, after he was set up by Jordan Darr.
Cue scenes of delight from players, management and fans .
