An entertaining game, which started quietly, with the first chance not coming til the 11th minute when C of L worked a bit of space on the edge of the box, but their shot was straight at Taberner in the Vics' net. A couple of minutes later, good play by City of Liverpool opened up the Vics defence, but this time the shot was fired just high of the bar. Shortly afterwards, Vics were again opened up and a left footed strike hits the Vics post with Taberner beaten. Vics responded, when a peach of a cross from Jack Fleming from the left just evaded everyone in the box, just needed a touch.City of Liverpool took the lead after 22 minutes when McGrath slotted in at the far post after a clinical attack . They maintained the lead easily until the 39th minute when Rob Doran marauded his way forward and was brought down on the edge of the penalty area. Up stepped full back Jack Fleming to power an unstoppable free kick into the top corner of the net. What a strike ! This spurred Vics on, with Doran being thwarted by the keeper as he drove into the area and then on the stroke of half time, Doran again found himself free on the right side of goal, but he couldn't quite get enough height on the ball to chip it over the onrushing keeper.

Vics had the first chance of the second half, as they were awarded a free kick just outside the area. Up stepped Jack Fleming again but this time , his more delicate effort just failed to find the inside of the right post. Two minutes later, Vics had a let -off as Danny Taberner seemed to to misjudge a shot from the left , resulting in the ball striking the post ! City of Liverpool took the lead in the 59th minutes as a free kick was floated in from the right and headed back the box where an unmarked Craig Cairns easily headed into the net. 66 minutes in, and Vics should have equalised as Jordan Darr beat a hesitant CofL defence to the ball, and was one on one with the keeper, his effort was well stopped by Ascroft in the City of Liverpool net, but the ball came back to Harvey Whyte who promptly laid the ball through to Darr again who was 6 yards out but he fired wildly over the bar when it was easier to score. Vics continued to push but with few chances being created whilst City of Liverpool always looked dangerous on the break. Vics best chance to equalise came in the 87th minute, when the ball was cleared to Joe Camozzi 25 yards out , but his powerful effort was just too high .
