Kilifin at the double

COMPETITION -The Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round
DATE - Saturday 24th August 2019.
NORTHWICH VICTORIA v PRESCOT CABLES
Vics dramatically won a place in the next round of the FA Cup as they came from behind to snatch a win with two goals in injury time

A quiet first 15 minutes , with both sides content to test each other out in midfield , and very little creative play upfront, with even corners for both teams being wasted. Vics, after 17 minutes finally produced a moment of note when Matty Clarke fed a delightful through ball to Jamie Reed but his effort was just wide of the post. 21 minutes in, and Vics came close again as Joe Camozzi and Tom Kilifin teamed up well , with Jamie Reed just not being able to get on the end of Kilifin's angled ball across the box. Three minutes later, and Camozzi set Doran free down the right , who fed the ball across the box but Kilifin's volley was well blocked. Prescot's best chance came after 29 minutes when a quick counter found Lloyd Dean on the edge of the area, but his shot was high and wide when well placed. Vics earned a free kick right on the edge of the area on 33 minus after a foul by James Cooper for which he received a yellow card, but Fleming's effort , though beating the wall was well blocked and cleared to safety. Chances continued to be far and few between, with both sides seemingly evenly matched and cancelling each other out.

The second half began with a bit more purpose, and Ryan Winder came close as he fired a half volley just wide as he came in from the right . 2 minutes later, it was Rob Doran's turn to come close , after good work by Jamie Reed , as he tried a overhead effort which went just wide . 52 minutes in, and Prescot whipped a free kick into the box, and James Cooper glazed a header just wide of the left post. Ten minutes later, a last gasp interception from the Prescot centre half denied Rob Doran as he was running onto a through ball with just the keeper to beat. After 71 minutes, determined play by Jamie Reed saw him win the ball in a tackle, and he quickly played the ball towards substitute Joel Brownhill in the box, but the striker was just unable to get a decisive touch. The game looked destined to be a goalless draw, but in the 80th minute, Prescot broke quickly down their right, and Jack Fleming was adjudged to have hauled down Lloyd Dean in the area, as he threatened to bear down on goal. Up stepped James Edgar to send Thompson the wrong way, and give Prescot Cables a late lead. Vics almost responded immediately as they earned a corner which was played in beautifully by Ryan Winder and went across the face of goal with no one getting a vital touch . Vics were pushing now as time was ticking out, and as the 90 minutes were up, a ball into the area was won by John Connolly, and his header was spilled by Ollie Taylor in the Cables' net, and the ball was gleefully turned into the net by Tom Kilifin. Two minutes later, and the turnaround was complete, as a long free kick from Wilson wasn't dealt with by Cables, Connolly headed it across goal and that man Kilifin stooped to head the ball home to send the Vics' fans wild.
