So, all square after the first 90 minutes, and both sides will still be confident of reaching Wembley. The match started quietly in-front of a large expectant crowd , with little action apart of a couple of early corners to both teams . Vics were having slightly more of the ball and after 14 minutes, Joel Brownhill got in behind the defence but his final shot was weak and didn't trouble Jupp in the Chertsey goal. A minute later, Darrhyl Mason did well to win the ball and then play a through ball for Rob Doran to run onto, but there was slightly too much on the ball , and the referee gave a foul on Jupp as Doran slid in for the 50/50 ball. Chertsey's best effort came from a Vics foot after 25 minutes as a corner was whipped in, and led to a sliced clearance which Danny Taberner did well to save. Chertsey then took the lead after 40 minutes, as a cross/shot by Binns was turned back across goal by Guentchev for Taylor to tap in from 4 yards out. Chertsey then had a chance to extend their lead on the stroke of half-time, as a good touch from Guentchev set up Binns, but his shot was wild and went high and wide.
Half-time : Vics 0 Chertsey T 1
Vics came out for the second half with purpose, and started pushing Chertsey back from the start, Brownhill had a shot after 48 minutes, but was high over the bar, then another effort from Whyte was again blazed over. Vics had their best chance after 59 minutes, as Harvey Whyte raced into the penalty area , but a tremendous tackle by a Chertsey defender whipped the ball away just as he was about to shoot. However after 72 minutes, a tremendous through ball by Ryan Winder found Whyte in space down the right side of the Chertsey box, and he gleefully smashed in from 10 yards out, keeper had no chance. Vics pressed on now for the winner, but Chertsey's defence stood firm leaving the tie finely balanced with all to play for in the second leg this Saturday
