A comfortable win for the Vics, and it could have been worse for Padiham if it wasn't for their young keeper Kai Calderbank-Park who was making his debut.
The match started fairly scrappily with only a Mason header from a corner worth noting, but after 13 minutes , a through ball found Dominic Craig through into the penalty area, whereupon he was brought tumbling to the ground by a desperate tackle from a defender. Joel Brownhill confidently put away the resulting penalty. Five minutes later, it was Craig again who was causing problems for the Padiham defence as he beat his man and fired a shot in, but it was well saved low to the keeper's left. After 23 minutes, Robert Doran was well played in by Harvey Whyte , but again the keeper was equal to his shot. Vics were still having the best of the play, but apart from 3 or 4 corners which led to nothing, the play was mostly in midfield. After 35 minutes, Vics should have extended their lead, when they broke quickly after a Padiham free kick was cleared, and the ball was played in from the right, it evaded Doran in the middle but Dom Craig was free at the back post but he somehow managed to hit the keeper with his shot when it was easier to score.

HALF-TIME - Padiham 0 Northwich Vics 1

The second half opened as the first half ended, with Vics controlling the play , and they had an early chance to get the second goal when Doran played a pin point ball across for Joel Brownhill who tried a first time volley but unfortunately missed his kick completely and the chance had gone. After 55 minutes, Vics gained a free kick 30 yards out which led to a Matty Clarke pinpoint cross which Doran gave the finish it deserved to put the Vics 2 up. Padiham nearly responded immediately as Vics sensed the game was won, as poor defending resulted in Padiham "scoring" but the flaf had been raised for offside. This seemed to wake Vics up again , and after 63 minutes, Doran raced onto a long ball and finished well past the keeper into the net. 4 minutres later, it was that man Doran again, who collected the ball just outside the penalty area, jinked his way to the right and hit an unstoppable strike into the far top corner of the net. Great goal. Now it was all Vics, and in the last twenty minutes , Calderbank-Park kept the scoreline respectable as he denied first Harvey Whyte and then made an even better save from Brian Matthews . Jordan Darr did manage to get the ball in the net after a good move, but he was ruled offside.

Steve Wilkes view on the game : "A thoroughly convincing win at Padiham.
To score four goals away from home is fantastic and also to keep a clean sheet. My only disappointment is that it should have been a lot more. But I’m not complaining. Praise once again for Rob Doran who in the second half was virtually unplayable.
His effort and desire is amazing.
We move onto Saturdays game now with a spring in our step now as we entertain 1874.

Another tough game but the lads will be ready for it."
