Vics were on the front foot right from the start, and were unlucky to be denied a goal after just 2 minutes when the ball was knocked into the net by Rob Doran from a cross which the keeper, Morgan Bacon failed to collect as he collided with one of his own players , but unfortunately the referee saw it differently and diallowed it. However Vics were not to be denied and just 2 minutes later, Billy Whittle was left unmarked and headed home from a well taken free kick to pout the Vics one up. After 7 minutes, Vics were awarded a free kick 25 yards out, but Joel Brownhill failed to beat the wall. City of Liverpool had their first chance after 13 minutes, when good one touch link up play between Cairns, Holt and Peterson led to a Hazlehurst drive from 25 yards which went just over the bar. Joel Brownhill then had another free kick which this time cleared the wall, but Bacon in the CoL net easily saved. After 31 minutes, some lovely football from Vics as Joe Camozzi found Harvey Whyte whose slide rule pass puts Rob Doran in down the side of the area, but his powerful shot is well blocked by the keeper. 36 minutes in, and CofL equalise as the ball is looped to the back post where Denson hammered the ball into the net with Taberner stranded. Vics nearly responded instantly as yet more good build up play leads to Joel Brownhill's swivelled shot going just wide.

HALF-TIME - City of Liverpool 1 Northwich Vics 1

The second half started with City of Liverpool having most of the ball , and passing it well without creating too much, but it was a set play after 59 minutes which proved Vics undoing, as a corner found Dalton unmarked just 6 yards out, his powerful header was somehow blocked but Peterson was on hand to knock the loose ball into the Vics net. City of Liverpool nearly repeated the goal after 71 minutes as another corner evaded Taberner but this time the header was looped onto the top of the net. CofL had another chance to extend their lead, as a deep free kick found Brown arriving at the back post but his header went wide when he really should have buried it. 3 minutes later, Vics nearly made them pay for the miss as Harvey Whyte found Darrhyl Mason's run down the right side of the box, but he sliced his shot well wide of the net. The last chance fell to Vics as a Brownhill corner was met at the far post but the header was just wide of the net.
