Well it all started normally enough, with Vics forcing a couple of early corners before Hanley took the lead when their striker, Theo Stair was left clear in the box to swivel and score with ease, with only 5 minutes on the clock. Then the lights went out! well, first the nearside floodlights went off, before they turned off the remaining ones. After a long delay, the lights flickered into action again so out came the players again and the game restarted. Vics were having most of the ball, but not creating a lot with it, with a long range shot from Kavanagh which went wide, and a blocked shot from Jake Pollard after a good cross by debutant Kieron Dale, all to show for our possession. Hanley were coping comfortably and always looked dangerous, and both Conlon and Nicholls had shots blocked which led to corners for the home team before the first half finally came to an end.

A quiet opening to the second half, with a couple of corners to both teams before, after 61 minutes, Conlon latched onto a long ball down the right, cut in and drove into the box where he was brought down. Penalty to Hanley, which was confidently slotted away by Theo Stair for his, and Hanley’s second. Hanley extended their lead after 77 minutes when Nicholls followed up a Stair shot and slid the ball past Holmes in the Vics net. Then just as Vics were about to kick off, the floodlights failed again. The players went off for another 20 minutes until the lights came back on. The players returned to the field but only for a matter of minutes as the lights promptly failed again and the ground was plunged into darkness. The referee duly blew his whistle and the match was over!
