Vic’s started brightly, and after 2 minutes Yaw Gyimah, cut in from the right and was crudely brought down on the edge of the area, but the resulting free kick came to nothing. However, just 2 minutes later, a long clearance from Mottram, was controlled by Brian Matthews , who strode forward towards the right corner of the box and struck an absolute screamer into the top far corner of the Runcorn net. What a strike ! After 7 minutes, Jake Pollard just failed to get a touch after a great through ball by Sam Marshall. In the 18th minute, Runcorn earned a corner , and a well worked routine ended with a near post header into the Vics net by Mark Reed. Just 3 minutes later, Runcorn’s striker Craig Cairns got in behind the Vics defence from a long ball forward , and easily lobbed Mottram who was in no mans land. It was still fairly end to end at this time, and Matthews had a shot blocked, before a minute later, Marshall put a ball all the way across the box , and Pollard just couldn’t get the angle to squeeze the ball home. Runcorn Town then had a chance as a cross in from the left was met by a Runcorn head but went wide.

Vic’s hope of a quick comeback were ruined when Town’s Craig Cairns cut in from the left and struck a shot past Mottram to make it 3-1 barely 30 seconds after the restart. Vics kept going and had plenty of the ball but didn’t really create anything until after 65 minutes, when after a bit of a scramble, Yaw placed a shot just wide of the goal. A few minutes later, Yaw had an even better chance when he was one on one , but blasted the ball straight at the keeper , instead of the little chip finish it required. This was the turning point, as Runcorn made it it 4 as that man Cairns smashed the ball home after some poor defending by the Vics. Vics were now in disarray , and it was no surprise when they failed to clear a corner, and Reed played it back into Cairns who easily shot into the Vics goal. It got worse in the last minute, when a heavy touch from Mottram, allowed Cairns to take it wide and roll the ball into an empty net for his 5th , and Runcorn's 6th.

Same old failings by Vics, some decent general play, a great goal by Matthews, but some terrible defending. Needs sorting quick.
