Northwich Vics v Abbey Hey: League 26th August 2017
Vics lined up without the absent Stu McDonald and John Bennett but welcomed back striker Brian Matthews from injury. Vic’s started well, and should have been one up when Jake Pollard broke through the Abbey Hey defence, but was thwarted by the keeper. Then the keeper was called into action again, with a top class save to deny Yaw Gyimah after a cracking turn and strike. However Abbey hey took the lead after 22 minutes, when George Noon struck after the ball was headed back from a far post cross. Vic’s kept battling and Yaw was again unlucky when he struck the bar with a powerful header. Vics nearly went two down, when Willis lost the ball on the edge of the box, but Abbey hey lob went high over the bar as well as keeper Mottram.
Half time: Northwich Victoria 0 Abbey Hey 1
Two minutes into the second half, Abbey Hey were gifted a second, when Benito Lowe beat Adam Lawrence for pace and power, and slotted the ball past Mottram in the Vics net. The game was then mainly played out in midfield, and things got worse for Vics when Sam Marshall received a second yellow card for a foul. Vics kept going, and after a powerful run by sub Olly Walker, he crossed the ball in for Brian Matthews to head in, but the keeper made a great reaction save to deny the striker. Adam Lawrence then had a header from a free kick just wide and Abbey Hey comfortably he’d out for the win

Another disappointing result for the Vics, but at least they had their chances . First goal was key.
Man of the match as awarded by match sponsor The Spinner and Bergamot was Danny McDonnell, who worked his socks off and never gave up.
