A quick start by the Casuals, and it was only the 12th minute when they took the lead through their top scorer, Tom Cottom who headed home at the far post after a great cross in. Vics nearly responded immediately when Sam Unwin turned his man in the box and dinked a cross in for Anton Smith to head an inch wide of the post. Casuals should have gone further ahead in the 23rd minute when a ball in wasn’t dealt with by Vics but they somehow put the ball over the bar from 3 yards out. Lynch and Smith then had shots , but the best chance for Vics came in the last minute of the half, Unwin stole the ball off the keeper, but was denied by a great last second block from Casuals.
Half-time : Wolverhampton Casuals 1 Northwich Vics 0
Joe Keyworth had to do well to foil a Casuals attack in the first couple of minutes of the second half, but it was Vics who quickly equalised when a free kick was played into the box for Frazer Cookson to head high into the net. All to play for now. Adam Reid then did brilliantly to save a point blank header from a corner in the 61st minute, as both teams went for the win. Reid had to pull off a second great save to keep Vics in the match in the 81st minute as Casuals went through one on one with him but Vics came fighting back and in the 83rd minute Sam Ogundare got down the right and crossed for Vics’ U21s star Nathan Gee to tap in at the far post on his debut. Vics then held on for their 4th consecutive win .
Full-Time : Wolverhampton Casuals 1 Northwich Vics 2
Not the best display by the Vics but they ground out another valuable 3 points to move further up the table and it was great to see them end the match with 3 players from their U21 squad on the pitch.
