Greenalls PSO v Northwich Victoria 11th July 2017

Vics started with a number of newcomers and trialists, and although they started brightly, it was Greenalls who had the first chance after a well worked free kick ended with a shot just over the bar. Lee Turkington for Vics, then showed awareness when he collected a poor clearance and saw the keeper out of his goal, but his opportunistic shot was high and wide. Greenalls then took the lead as their striker , Gav Horner , raced onto a through ball and slotted the ball past Ritchie Mottram in the Vics goal . Greenalls had the better of the play then with Vics looking disjointed and they deservedly got a second after 28 mins when a free kick from the right was turned into his own net by a Vics player. Vics nearly struck back immediately when a long range effort from Mike McDonald was brilliantly saved by Greenalls keeper. The half ended with Greenalls nearly making it three whilst Stuart McDonald had a half chance for Vics.

Wholesale changes at half time saw a more recognisable team for Vics , and they quickly gained dominance and created a number of good chances notably after 53 mins when Matty Shaw was sent through one on one with the keeper who made a good save. After 63 minutes, Mike McDonald’s powerful shot hit the post, and then Matty Shaw was denied yet again after good work by Reece Lyndon. Vics continued to dominate, with only a sporadic threat from Greenalls, but they were unable to capitalise, with first Will Smith not quite finding the finish a delicious through ball deserved, and then the impressive Matty Shaw again being denied by a great save.
