Sutton Junction v Northwich Victoria 29th July Friendly

Sutton Junction v Northwich Victoria 29th July Friendly:

Vics started this game as they had finished against Leek CSOB, and gave away a goal in the 4th minute, when an error by Adam Lawrence gave the ball to the Junction striker, Paul Billinge who neatly put it past the Vics keeper. However, from here on in, it was mostly Vics putting the pressure on and after 10 minutes, a great through ball by Reece Lyndon sent Pritchard through, but the Sutton keeper was equal to the task with a good save. Vics then forced a series of corners which came to nothing but after 15 minutes, a shot from the edge of the area by Pollard was parried away by the keeper, but Jordan Cobley was following up to put the ball away. Vics were now on top, Benno had a speculative shot from 40 yards out which cleared the cross bar, and Brian Matthews made himself room, but his chip wentover the bar as well as the keeper. Vics finally took the lead after 36 minutes, when a great ball to the back post was headed back by Pritchard and Mike Berrisford turned it in.

Half Time: Sutton J 1 Northwich Vics 2

The second half started with Vics pressing once again, and Adam Lawrence couldn’t quite rise high enough to direct his header goalwards instead of over the bar from a corner. Vics extended their lead after 58 minutes, when a great cross in from Turner down the left was deftly flicked into the net by Matthews. 10 minutes later, James Oppong who had come on as a sub, rampaged down the right and his delicious cross was headed on by Lyndon for Olly Walker to slam home. Vics were now dominant, and after 72 minutes, another sub, Matty Shaw danced his way through the middle and laid the ball off for Walker to again strike into the net. Will Smith was then only denied a goal by a brilliant tip round by the Sutton keeper, but the sixth goal wasn’t long in coming as Walker turned provider when he pulled a ball back across goal where Pritchard was waiting to knock the ball in.

Final Score Sutton Junction 1 Northwich Vics 6 (Cobley, Berrisford, Matthews, Walker x 2, Pritchard)

A good workout for the lads against a spirited Sutton team, harder tasks to come, but goals build confidence so onwards the Vics!
