Leek CSOB v Northwich Victoria 25th July 2017 Friendly

On a warm summer’s evening, Vics started this match on the front foot as in the 2nd minute Matty Shaw’s freekick was met by the head of Reece Lyndon , but it went just wide. That was about as good as it got for Vics in a woeful first half performance. CSOB took the lead about half way through, when a throw in from the right was controlled in the box by the Leek striker who easily held off his man, and cooly laid it back for it to be smashed into the top of the Vics’ net. No more than CSOB deserved. Mottram had to make a great save shortly afterwards after the ball was given away sloppily 25 yards out leaving the Leek striker one on one. CSOB were dominating play , and Mottram produced another good save, this time at point bland range to keep the score one nil. On a rare foray forward by Vics, a perfect long pass by Reece Lyndon, was controlled by Matthews but his shot was easily saved by the CSOB keeper. The final effort of the half predictable fell to CSOB, when a silly free kick was given away 25 yards out, but the ball comfortably went over the bar .

Half Time : Leek CSOB 1 Northwich Vics 0

Vics made several changes at half time unsurprisingly, and came into the game much more. Ian Willis had an effort over the bar from 25 yards out, whilst Olly Walker beat his man in midfield, and drilled a shot just wide of the right post. 70 minutes in, and Stuart McDonald’s free kick from the right rebounded back to him, and his powerful low shot hit a CSOB defender when it looked destined for the back of the net. Vics managed to draw level after 82 minutes when Mike Berrisford powered through from midfield and hit a cracking shot high into the net from a good 25 yards out. However, in keeping with their performance, Vics immediately managed to concede again after some poor defensive work. Nothing more than CSOB deserved though.

Final Score : Leek CSOB 2 Northwich Vics 1 (Berrisford)

First half, very disappointing, Second half, better but still not good enough !
Oh well there’s always Saturday to look forward to.
