The Vics started the match brightly, defying the rain soaked pitch and an early free kick was headed across goal, and put into the Middlewich net, but was quickly and rightly ruled out for offside. Next Matthews fed the ever willing Stu McDonald down the right, who put in a cross that Jordan Cobley just failed to get the touch it required. However, Cobley did latch onto a through ball minutes later and slotted the ball past the keeper but much to Vics dismay, the liner had already flagged for another player being offside and the goal was disallowed. Middlewich then forced a point blank save from Ritchie Mottram who was then alert enough to pounce on the loose ball.

The second half opened pretty much as the first half with Vics pressing and having most of the play. After 50 minutes, the lively Jordan Cobley is again sent through on goal, but this time fired straight into the keeper’s hands from a wide angle. Substitutions were then made regularly by both sides, disrupting the pattern of play but Vics still having the best of it. Middlewich did have a great chance however when they launched a quick counter attack which ended with their striker just putting the ball wide. After 80 mins, another good through ball from the Vics midfield led to the ball being cleared from the goal line by a Middlewich defender, that being the nearest either team came to a winner before the end.

Plenty of quick attacking play by Vics, especially in the first half but again failing to capitalise on the superiority. Chances need to be taken.
