Vics 4th friendly of the pre-season took place at Barnton on a warm summer’s evening, giving Paul Moore the opportunity to try out a number of players over the 90 minutes. The first half was fairly uneventful, with the first (of many) substitution taking place as early as the 23rd minute , but there was a lot of hustle and bustle , although neither keeper was really tested.

The 2nd half continued the trend of substitutions outnumbering the attempts on goal, but Olly Walker did fire an effort just wide of the post after 53 minutes. Then Stuart McDonald shot was deflected just over the bar, after a corner to the Vics. The first goal came after 65 minutes, when a delightful through ball gave Brian Matthews an 1 on 1 with the keeper, and he duly slotted the ball past him to make it 1- 0 to the Vics. The Trickies extended their lead 7 minutes later, when they were awarded a free kick 22 yards out just right of centre, which Stu McDonald brilliantly put into the top right hand corner of Daten’s net giving the keeper no chance. Daten pulled one back when their player cut in from the right and drilled a shot into the bottom corner past Ritchie Mottram, no more than their play deserved. The only other highlight was Daten’s centre back performing a Scorpion kick clearance for no real reason apart from the fact that he could, which gave the supporters a few laughs.
